One month until hunting commences fellas! I'm thinking some teal in the morning and a mule deer hunt in the evening on the 1st. We have had a fairly wet summer in my neck of the woods and certain areas of the playa wetlands have good water. As long as we can get some timely rains this month there should be an opportunity to hunt some ducks out of them. I've seen several wetlands with quite a few young mallards with momma so that is a good sign that we actually had some production on them. Looking forward to things!

Was up in the northeast corner of the state last night looking at ground for our upcoming HRC hunt tests, saw several wood ducks and about 15 teal.

These doves are making me lose focus rapidly.

So a good portion of the Eastern basins are in a drought area and the majority of the Western basins are dry...we're going to need a lot of rain in the next two weeks.

A couple basins have great water. Of course, there will be 40 trucks at each one.

Not sure about the basins, but eastern Ne got 5"+ in the last week. Lots of water, should make for a great teal season!

Had our HRC test this past weekend, kicked teal off of every body of water every morning, not big groups, but up towards a dozen birds. I'm hoping the opener we will have quite a few birds around.

There were more teal in my area 2 weekends ago compared to this last weekend even though there's plenty of water around. Literally saw more pintails than teal. Hope some more push down with this front and stick around til Saturday.

I'm going to check out some playas probably tomorrow to see if they have picked any up. Quite the cold front pushed through yesterday so I'm sure there will be a good push of teal and doves.

I saw strong numbers of teal, pintails, and mallards, along with some shovelers this morning on several playas. Sure gets a guy excited!

Boy you basin guys must be doing a good rain dance. It looks like the possibility of some hefty rainfall amounts across the eastern half of Nebraska the next seven days. NOAA WPC is showing 3-4" across the eastern basins next seven days. The GFS model is showing a swath of 4-6" across all of south central NE also. Obviously take them with a grain of salt because they will change, but it's always fun to get on the hype train!
