The 5th Annual Old Dominion One Shot Turkey Hunt site is live for registration as a guide, hunter, landowner, or the youth essay contest.

The event is a state wide turkey hunt contest with an official weigh in at Bass Pro Shops in Ashland. There is a celebration at Bass Pro that Saturday night to dish out awards and have a great dinner. My favorite part is the Youth Essay Contest. Each year we provide a free hunt to the top 5 youth (8-15 year olds) essays. The essays are judged by a panel of outdoor writers from across Virginia. Last year we had so many sponsorships for youth hunters we were able to take 10!

Overall the hunt has over 50 hunters annually.

Typically hunt spots are purchased via corporate donations/sponsorships. There are a few individuals that pay the entry fee each year and I encourage you to do so if you would like to do so. Please shoot me any questions on here if you would like.

The One Shot proceeds benefit the VDGIF and Wildlife Foundation of Virginia missions. More on that below the links...

Last years winner learned archery through a program directly funded by moneys raised by the VDGIF / WFV partnership and money raised in past One Shot Hunts:

"Aaron Hill learned to shoot archery through the Scott County Outdoor Team (SCOT) when he joined at age 11. SCOT was funded by the Virginia Wildlife Grant program for three years. Hill’s experience has been brought full circle since it began four years ago."

This is a great event. They put on a really good show. My Son participated as a youth hunter last year. He was able to watch a nice gobbler strut for about 20 minutes, but it never came close enough for a shot. Still a great time and my Son has not stopped talking about it.....

I hope you'll join us again. Keep spreading the word. You can come to the event Saturday night even if you don't' hunt during the day.
