Never hunted in the fall, but spring hunting is the most challenging bird hunting of all.
I'm not a fan of busting the birds intentionally. Find a roost, get close, call them in. I hear birds KeeKee, but never actually had one come to it. I hear more of that kind of hen calling in the spring than the fall, too. I don't chase them in the fall shotgun season much any anymore because I'm either working on duck clubs, or training dogs.
Shot ten last fall. Could have shot 100.
Got one this year.
Went out for Maryland's season 2 weeks ago. Got a nice Jake. The sad part was the large number of people ( I won't call them hunters) I observed driving the old logging roads clearly trying to spot and shoot one from their vehicle.
