I have a pix taken 1st weekend of Dec this yr with about a 1000 +/- a thousand birds right in front on the motel we stay at in Ferryville. Got some decent pix of birds right next to shore. Motel owner does guiding for waterfowl. Might want to pick his brain a little. Last I talked to his wife he looks to be booked up for 2017 season already, but I might be wrong.

I hunt pool 19 and cans in numbers don't show up until maybe 11/15 at the earliest. So for pool 9 maybe a little (like a week earlier) would be the earliest I would plan an entire trip around canvasback hunting. Don't know anything about pool 9, but for 19 unless you get a N or NW wind the day of your hunt or 1 or 2 days before your hunt it could be slim pickens'. With that said, being out on the river with conditions when cans are flying (post 11/15 with 20-30 N- NW winds and near ice conditions) and where they want to be (middle of the open water) on the Mighty Miss in a Mo Marsh fatboy is a deathwish. Layout with tender maybe, but the water better be flat. Just be safe, that rig is for an inland marsh/refuge.

I live 20 miles from Pool 19. There is no way in he!! I would ever take a fat boy or layout boat in the Miss unless I had a death wish. Pool 19 is the largest staging area for Canvasback in the world. Late February, early March there are hundreds of thousands on the river. It is truly a spectularer sight.

Nastier the better for them there. Like as been said no way I would go with a little boat, but I have seen guys hunt in canoes with motors on them up there.
