At our gun club meeting earlier this month, the rifle/pistol chairman read a press release sent to ATF apparently by the DOJ.

The basic gist of it was that if you have a medical marijuana card issued by Oklahoma and because weed is listed as a Class One Narcotic by the feds and therefore illegal to possess, you cannot buy, own or possess a firearm. Form 4473 has the question, “are you a user of illegal narcotics....” and that’s where they are going to nail people with illegal possession of a firearm.

I see this evolving somewhat along the lines of the recreational dope business in Colorado. When the purveyors of it went to the bank to make their first deposit, feds were waiting there to seize the cash under the drug asset forfeiture law as the banks were FDIC insured members and thus subject to federal laws. The Colorado legislature quickly addressed it by creating a law for state chartered (non-FDIC) banks as the state was raking in scads of revenue from the sales.

    Sticky wicket indeed.

By that definition any prescribed narcotic pain killer disqualifies gun ownership.

If you read the verbiage again, it states "illegal narcotics" versus prescription medications with the added fact that MJ is considered an "illegal narcotic" by the feds regardless of a prescription issuance.

Here's the article that brought this to light:
