Another good measure is "first pass yield". That's about how many input units proceed down the process without being set aside for repair or rework. That's also a measure of workmanship/component quality and thus covers an even greater portion of the supply chain.

The reason productivity is down is because all the easy gains in agriculture and manufacturing have been used up. Also ag and manufacturing are shrinking as we move to a service economy. It is hard gain efficiency on the service side as it is hard to automate service type work.

Is there a more productive way for a human to say "do you want fries with that?"

Question... Do tips increase when servers draw hearts and smiley faces on dining tickets?

Agriculture, food, and related industries contributed $992 billion to U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) in 2015, a 5.5-percent share. The output of America's farms contributed $136.7 billion of this sum—about 1 percent of GDP.

With a Fed Fund rate below 0.25% - it had been easier for Corporation to take out low interest loans and buy back shares of their own stock in order to shrink the float so they beat the market and make a profit than to take out low interest loans to build new facilities, purchase new equipment and/or new technology.

But that had nothing to do with productivity gains in the service industry. How do you automate an oil change? A roofing job? Insurance adjustment?

Thanks to innovation, sooner or later, the need to change oil will be eliminated.
Thanks to innovation, sooner or later, the installation of roofing will become automated.
Send a drone to the event site to record the conditions, then collect supplemental information via the internet.

First you have started to use the term "allow" which must mean you are back in Florida. That is a change in tone from you earlier position. But remember, output increases that are not consumed by the marketplace do not create a valued increase in GDP. There must still be a demand side for GDP to be a valued increase. As such, a productivity gain can merely yield greater margin or profit and not contribute to an increased GDP.

You make the application and execution of those services more efficient.

They are roughly the half of all Federal Income tax filers who get appx 100% of their Federal Income taxes back, that they paid in throughout the year, when they file their return.

The bottom 30% of all Federal Income tax filers get an additional subsidy back along with 100% of their Federal Income taxes that they paid in throughout the year, when they file their return.
