You know Richard, you do bring up a good point, the gov comes into to a major deficit situation increases taxes and entitlements and gets a free pass from the media......even on this side of the state.

It was kinda like.....uh?......did that really happen?

Now with all that said, Lawdagh is right. This thing passes and all it will do is cost us services. I wish it wasn't true but it is. I think the WA voter has been trying to send the message to cut entitlements to Olympia now for 10 years via the initative process. I think all that has been accomplished is we know they ain't listening. The beauty of it is with all that said most of them will still get re-elected.

hate to do it boys, but i'm gonna roll out a black helicopter here and cut loose with one of my crazy opinions. hope you get a good laugh.
it is my opinion that former governor locke, during both his terms and in particular his last one, and the new governor and current democommie politburro are deliberately laying the ground work for the future major state budget crisis which will open the gate and pave the way for their greatest hope and dream, the long desired and lusted after state income tax.
here's another black helicopter, i think the reason there is no performance audit in this state, and why the democommies(and probably a bunch of commies in republican drag)don't ever want one and fight any attempt for one, is that washington state is a money laundering machine for the left. look at any issue, salmon, traffic, etc, and how much money is taxed and spent. what do we as citizens really get for our tax dollar? what do we have to show for the high taxes and beaureaucratic/legistlative mismanagement? where has and does all all that money go?
millions have been and are being spent on salmon, where are the fish? no one seems to know. could it be that the reason for the fish problem is the same as the one acknowlegeded in a news story i heard on the radio today about the spotted owl. the story stated that the spotted owl continues to decline even with the changes and restrictions to logging, and that a big part of the problem is that the science applied to the owl issue is flawed. imagine that. flawed science.
millions spent on traffic, and more congestion wth no relief in sight. flawed science? or is it just corruption, mismanagement and effective manipulation(as in 3 walnut shells and a dried pea). as dr. dux stated, the beauty is the people of the socialist democracy of washington will obediently and willingly re-elect the perpetrators of this continuing deceit again and again.

Has anyone seen the headlines lately..... " Unemployment overpaid by $120 million." Yes, that is a 120 followed by 000,000. of your hard earned $$$$$ going to those who don't even DESERVE it. (don't let me get going on unemployment). Will we see anyone fired for it? NOT! Will we see anyone arrested/cited for it? Yeah right!! Will anyone have to pay it back? Only if Conservatives push for it. That's good solid leadership right there... let me tell ya.[/QUOTE]

Outstanding point! Until there is a little accountability down in Olympia they don't get one more cent of additional tax money. Why should they when they obviously can't responsibly handle what they've already got? Besides, it really chaps my *** the way they tried to backdoor this gas tax on us.

If I thought this tax would actually build new roads or help our traffic mess I would not mind, if I hadn't witnessed the Sound Transit, Monorail debacles I wouldn't know better than to trust these people with tax money that they can spend as fast as possible and then say "we underestimated". If the people in Seattle weren't voting for license tab increases on themselves and then registering their cars outside of Seattle with family and friends addresses I might be gullible enough to be happy about paying taxes into a deep deep hole where they never see the light of day again.

I haven't read the language of the performance audit initiative (and have doubts, as Eiman has been unable to write one that works or that doesn't infringe some basic provision of the state constitution, and therefore get tossed out) BUT, if it does work that may be the medicine we need--if there is one obvious trend here it is that nobody believes the people we've elected to lead us can do their jobs, we're frustrated, and nobody knows how to fix that.
