I only have 1 dog right now. There is a picture of him on page 13 of the dog pic thread.

    Been lurking...

    ... my $.02...

Do you homework and get a DD.

    The well bred ones...
Don't look for fights and kill your pet cat.
Don't pick burrs except in the beards.
Do well in most winter weather.
    Retrieve and point naturally.
    Adapt to different cover naturally.

My 2nd pick would be a PP... based on temperament and upland.

DO your due dilligence... every one and their brother wants to breed these days.

Find someone who hunts what an how you do... you'll have a better chance getting what you want.

I agree with you guys on AKC breedings. That’s why it so important to look at pedigrees, titles, and meet and shoot over the breeding pair. I will look closely at the DDs and the breeders you have recommended.

Have you guys run your dogs in any AKC or AF Field Trials? It sounds like your dogs would kill it and go home with all the ribbons!

crossing over with a Dhraht to AKC kills there DD registration. Personally, I have had a NFC/FC/AFC setter. Judged for a long time-to many politics and the trials run during hunting season. With the Dhrahts, Just want to hunt behind a good dog and enjoy my solitude without the headaches.

One other issue with running Drahts and crossing over to AKC is their high prey drive. You could never break one of chasing rabbits or other fur-bearers. That is a fault in AKC Gun Dog stake and your dog would be picked up/disqualified.
