Finally after 4 seasons and several close encounters I got my first turkey. He is only a Jake but I'm proud of him since he is a public ground bird. I put him and four of his buddies to bed Sunday night. I snuck in before light Monday morning and set up about 100 yards from the roost. These were the laziest group of Jakes I have ever seen. They did not get down off the roost till 7:30. At that point I had been sitting still for over 2 hours. My legs were numb, my back and rear end hurt, and I was about to wet my pants. But I didn't want to move because right after day light one of the birds had changed trees and was now only 50 yards from me. I felt like he was staring right at me. After they got down I watched them chase each other around for 30 minutes, and then I let this one have it when he got within 35 yards. Did I mention it was 32 degrees and snowing with 15-25 mph winds!

That's the one you will never forget.
    Congrats.
It took me 7 years to kill my first bird.
