I am thinking of getting a 4x4 passenger van. I wonder if any others are using, or have used a van for hunting and fishing "the refuge".

I have a crew cab Ram 1500 now and it's fine. My wife has the minivan that's used for moving the family. I'm thinking about a Man Van to haul the fam, and hunting camping and fun when needed.

That's cute, but not what I had in mind. Something more like this [IMG]

Guy here in town has a 3/4 ton GMC 4x4 conversion. Used the heck out of it during the ducks season. For 15 years I used a 3/4T Chevy van as my hunting vehicle. I camped in it while hunting, for up to 5 days at a time. VERY handy.
    The 4x4 conversions ain't cheap.

i believe I know the guy Tuleman speaks of. I have been hunting with him. The Van is handy. He had his 4 Wheeler and decoys all in it. It's a panel van, with only front seats.

Sounds like him, '503. His name rhymes with hedge-knee.

I keep dreaming about a sportsmobile or one of those f450/550 expeditions...

I like my excursion. Keep 3rd seat out and can cold down bench seat when I need more room.

Not many newer, cheap options on 4x4 vans. Wish there were... I was looking into them a few years ago. Word of warning on the 7.3L Ford 4x4 vans, from a guy who operates them routinely in El Paso; Find one with a turbo. He said the stock setup was just enough to get you killed, power-wise, in traffic, and couldn't pull much weight. His vans are a little on the heavy side though. Probably a ton or so of electronics in the back.

@tcc; does that use old the pickup frame? I'd drive that!
