Tough day today. Dropped him off at the vet last night to have surgery. Had a tumor that had gotten bigger than a golfball on his thyroid that started causing problems as it grew, it pushed on his esophagus and airway and it was time that surgery became mandatory. It was hard for him to eat or sleep through the night so his quality of life was declining. Vet said if we did nothing he would likely only have a few months left and they would not be good ones. Surgery was 50-50 for a dog of his age (almost 15). They got in there today and sadly he did not make it. I am now a grown azz man crying at work. Ive held all my dogs as the got put down and I never wanted his last moments to be in a cage at the vet alone and doped up before surgery. He was confused and angry (as he is to all strangers) so he had to be under sedation almost instantly.

I know i know he is not a duck dog. But he is the finest rabbit dog I have ever owned or had the pleasure to hunt behind. He had been retired for about the last 4-5 years and loved every minute of being a full time pot licking house dog. RIP to the best co pilot, home security system, alarm clock, bed hog, and over all best friend I could have ever asked for. See you on the other side, friend.

This picture is on one of his favorite days, he got to go on a hike and swimming trip at the local state park, and got ice cream on the way home. A couple years into his "retirement" at this time.

Hug your dog tonight fellas. You just never know.

    RIP 2003-2018

    RIP little Buddy.....
Seiowa, sounds like he had an awesome life with you and beside you. Take comfort in knowing he is still chasing bunnies at full speed until you meet again.

Sorry for your loss. Had a beagle when I was younger. They are neat little dogs.

So sorry for your loss. I can feel your pain, we lost our14 year old Chocolate Lab back in May. Still have a 12 year that misses her sister.
