A few of my Gould's from Mexico had no spurs, what so ever;)
Even the nice 21 tail feather, full Gould's mount I have, doesn't have spurs.:dv
    Believe I've even gotten a Merriam's w/o spurs also.:scratch

Generally, around in the Ozark area of Missouri a gobbler with 1/2”-3/4” pink and black tipped spurs is a 2 year old. Jakes will have nubs. 3 year olds will be at least a 1” with some pink at the base and mostly black and sharper. 4-5 year olds will have solid black, +1 1/8” spurs that are very sharp. Now beards, a bird with a 4” and under beard at the time of season will be a jake. I’ve killed and seen several gobblers with short very thick beards and generally that’s due to them being caked with ice, during the winter and freezing off. I’ve killed a few gobblers with big scabs and open wounds on them from fighting with other gobblers.
