This year marks that100 years ago we lost The Grand Kankakee Marsh. They turned 290 miles of river channel into 80 miles. There were biologist that said we lost 5 percent of waterfowl nation wide after the marsh was drained. Then the Fed's were to give us 30000 more acres of federal refuge along the kank. But politicians took that away. That 30000 acres was nothing compared to the 250 million acres it once was.

Every time I see the program about the Kankakee it brings a tear to my eye. We had such an amazing natural resource and it was dessimated in the name of profitability. And now we are left with a drainage ditch.
