I hunted the 2nd Season weekend of the South Zone in So. Il. Not much luck. I saw two birds in three days. Once they got off the roost all was quiet. Too windy the days I hunted.
I really think turkeys hate me. This was my 4th season chasing them and I have yet to pull the trigger on one. So DON"T take any advise from me!
We did find some mushrooms though and the crappie were biting too. Still a fun weekend.

I was close enough that I should have heard the shot but at 6:45, I was probably hard at reading the morning paper, drinking coffee and waiting for my 2pm quittin' time :l:yes
Congrats on the bird and it was good to hear that ol Harry was able to tag along.

Killed a jake about an hour in to 2nd season. Stayed out and hunted with a buddy and he had an chance at a nice tom about an hour later but didn't connect. Hunted the opener of 4th yesterday and didn't hear a gobble until around 10. Thought it was going to be a done deal, but a coyote ruined it for me.

I had first in the northern zone. On Monday, 10 April, woke up to thunder, lightening and rain. Still going at 0700, so I missed day one...not wanting to risk rutting up the farmers field road. Days 2 & 3, lots of gobbling, but not one "trukey" was seen. The rest of the season was shot due to unforeseen family commitments. First time in 5 or 6 years that I didn't at least have an opportunity.
I know a few `shooms are being found to supplement the later turkey hunters.
