Many days couldn't wait to get out of the pit to head there. Burgers and beer.... Missed most of the heyday but did get some good hunts in down there. Nothing like being in the pit on a flight day watching big groups V'd up heading into the refuge when all of a sudden 1 loner decides your spread is good enough and pulls the rest of the group along.

Yup....was always strange...I hunted on the South end and on a migration day the geese came from the south....always figured they followed the river down to The Bend and then came back to The Lake.......we still see mallards do the same thing.
Sure miss the days of the geese.....but doubt I will ever see it again.

Saw a field in IN about 4 miles east of the Wabash next to I64 with a couple thousand Canadas in it this AM.

I saw maybe a couple thousand snows in a field about 10 miles west of the Burnt Prairie exit. Was so foggy I'm sure I missed others in the air. The ones in IN were Canadas and there was a smaller bunch of maybe a hundred in a corn field about another mile west of the big bunch.

The fog probably hurt you seeing the ones a couple miles past the Grayville exit...... Last Monday they were stacked on both sides of I64. Looked like a bunch coming from the Princeton power plant direction but the majority coming from the SE, probably Sauerheber birds.

Anybody know if there is a chance of open water tomorrow at the draw tomorrow? Figuring its locked up but thought ask around before I load the chainsaw in the truck. I called the office & got the answering machine.

Just where the pumps are running. The rest will be locked up. They hammered them today. Best day all year.
