Map is really cool. My bird was somewhat of a disappointment as when it finally left Suisun, it did a 3/4 circle around Sutter Buttes before it flew over me...was hoping to find a long distance travel venture rather than 2 months in Suisun

Well that's fully possible in the crazy State of California I've never seen another place where they have rights to the collar! The moment they strap it on the animal it is no longer their possession if a hunter takes the animal he legally owns it and they cannot demand it back. Having taken both a radio collar deer and a radio collared swan I've dealt with this before neither time did they actually want them back and made it clear that they wouldn't have had a legal right to take it but when they can they swap them out if the collar is functional which mine were not so they didn't really care about it. In the end they have no more legal right to claim the ownership of the caller anymore then they do a standard metal leg band.

I shot a hen pintail 15 years ago or so. Sent it back and they sent me a dummy for the mount and $100 for my trouble.

About 15 years ago VDGIF wanted to put one of those backpacks on a hen pintail here. I knew the guy that ran the WMA that they were gonna do it on. IIRC he said it was like $5000 for one of those backpacks at the time.
